Is a sculpting procedure used to slim and reshape specific areas of the body by removing fatty tissue using a high vacuum device. Liposuction is performed through small incisions. First, diluted local anesthesia is infused throughout the body. Then a thin hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted through the incisions to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion. The fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum. Liposuction removes fat, but it cannot eliminate dimpling or correct enlarged skin laxity. If a patient’s skin has lost much of its elasticity, the plastic surgeon may recommend a skin tightening procedure.
